Title: Quality-Driven Digital Transformation
Businesses today operate in a data-driven era, known as Industry 4.0. Most of these businesses are beginning, or may be in the midst of, a digital transformation, which is allowing them to make more effective use of vast amounts of data in ways they have never been able to before. They are deploying new advanced digital technologies to gather deep insights, which allows them to:
1. Enhance the efficiency of the processes used for engagement and delivery across their end-to-end business operations and throughout the value chain.
2. Augment the productivity and effectiveness of the people to make more informed decisions, change the way they work together, and accelerate achievement of the strategic goals.
3. Improve the Quality of the overall experience their customers have with their products and services.
The combination of these three benefits greatly enhances the quality of the outcomes from any sized business. The Quality profession is quickly aligning with this new data-driven digital transformation. Quality professionals are expanding their roles far beyond the traditional break-fix analysis in development and manufacturing and are now combining the proven quality techniques, methodologies, and tools with advanced data-driven digital technologies to help their businesses, and themselves, realize these three benefits and more. This alignment is what we refer to as Quality-Driven Digital Transformation.
In my presentation, I will discuss some examples that show how Quality is practiced on a broad scale across the business and why the Quality profession is such a critical success factor for businesses to achieve performance excellence in the era of data-driven digital transformation.
Elmer Corbin founded The Corbin Company LLC in 2019, where he offers global digital transformation consulting and speaking engagement services. Prior to starting his own business, he served as Head of Customer Success and Delivery Excellence for the IBM Cloud and Watson Artificial Intelligence (AI) business unit. Throughout his rewarding career at IBM, he served in a wide variety of major technical, business, and executive leadership roles, including leading a business unit of over 700 employees responsible for the development of the IBM BlueGene/L supercomputer and the core processor technology that helped all three leading video game console companies revolutionize the home entertainment market.
His career also included serving as IBM’s Corporate Quality Executive, where he led the enterprise transformation of the global quality management system and created an innovative analytics framework to provide insights on ways to improve the quality of the end-to-end experience customers have with IBM.
Elmer was elected the 2018 Chairman of the Board of Directors for ASQ, where he led transformative changes that resulted in membership gains, a significant reduction in legal and compliance risk, new data and information tools, and a roadmap of new product assets to create sustainable long-term growth for the global organization.
Elmer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from The University of Texas in Austin, and he is a Certified Professional Engineer by the Texas State Board of Professional Engineers.
