Title: New Zealand Organisation for Quality (NZOQ)
NZOQ is a professional society providing the principles of quality management and best practice in New Zealand. Quality is vital to New Zealand organisations and individuals to succeed in the competitive marketplace.
In 1977 a group of quality professionals, executives and academics came together at Massey University to pursue a journey of quality. NZOQ was the result of that positive collaboration. For 44 years NZOQ have provided leadership in the advancement of quality management and best business practices.
For 44 years the New Zealand Organisation for Quality (NZOQ) has been the major professional and membership association for quality practice and practitioners in New Zealand. Established in 1977 it is a long-term supporter of APQO. NZOQ has several key roles including being an active membership organisation for people and organisations, providing membership services, being a corporate educator of quality training and representing New Zealand to the wider international quality and business excellence fraternity.
NZOQ offers a range of membership services including: branch events, professional development and recognition, awards, prizes and scholarships, print, online and social media contacts, and a chance to come together among fellow quality practitioners. We are an important corporate trainer in a range of programmes both directly and through joint ventures. Our quality, business excellence and auditing programme are a popular back bone to lifting quality competencies in New Zealand.
Our long running and highly regarded Certificate in Quality Assurance (CQA) programme is now incorporated as the first year of the two-year NZOQ Diploma in Quality Assurance which in turn can be a pathway into higher level study in quality at Massey University.
NZOQ has a small professional national office in the provincial city of Palmerston North, also the major campus for Massey University, and also has two well established volunteer branches – Northern (in Auckland) and Canterbury (in Christchurch).
NZOQ also has a small office presence in Auckland (our largest city) which is now the registered office of APQO and also houses NZBEF. Events in other parts of New Zealand also occur with local members being assisted by national office .This ensure a spread of national and regional events for members and the public.
NZOQ represents NZ quality to the world. In particular NZOQ has a strong relationship with fellow organisations throughout the Asia-Pacific. We have in place republishing arrangements with CAQ in China. NZOQ is a long standing sustaining council member of APQO and member of ANQ. We mentored the delivery of the APQO conference in Manila in 2017 and facilitated organisational change in APQO 2017/18. It particularly has a strong relationship with AOQ in Australia with which it is forging growing trans-Tasman cooperation. From 2017 this included joint partnership for the publication of a single trans-Tasman quality journal, Quality Business, initiated by NZOQ in NZ in 2015.
Our NZOQ president has been requested by AOQ to play a mentoring role in organising the 2021 APQO conference in Australia in October this year.
We have existing links with Tonga, Fiji and Vanuvatu in the provision of quality training and have been actively involved in promoting Quality and Business Excellence including Baldrige criteria in the Pacific Islands.
